Hi All,
I am in the process of looking at ASP databases and wonder if any of you have experience of using Bond or RDB ASP databases - we do both perm and temp recruitment and have had demo's from both companies - quite similar at first glance but how easy are they in day to day use - any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Ethan

We run a small recruitment agency just outside of cuckfield, and the problem with all these recruitment systems on ASP is flexibility and getting something whcih we can change whenever we like, the only company that does this at the moment is Bond. They also can support any growth you have. Recently attended the Technical Recruitment Forum in Manchester and it remains the case that Adapt is really the best tool out there, suprisingly cheap also.

Hi - we use RDB. From a client and candidate handling point of view its quite powerful. However my real gripe is the sales side. Having come from a sales background I am used to pure sales software. I find it really difficult not having the following:
ability to schedule sales calls
appointment diary
forecast sales (orders) options
not being able to double click on the geographic area to make it easier to do sales calls when trying to make appointments.

All in all for the sales side I would say it hinders the process so I end up using my diary to make notes about when to call people about a specific job or follow up.

Thanks Guys,

Databases are a bit of a pain and I sometimes wonder if we spend more time putting stuff on them than canvassing and filling jobs - bring back a diary and cardex system, it seemed much easier then. AND we used to bill just as much as we do now!!!

Instead of emails and SMS we used to just telephone and (actually) speak to our clients and candidates!!!!

TopKat,

Anything to back up your claim that Bond can't be beat??

What makes it stand out from the rest?

And is it the ASP system your talking about or just Bond as a whole?

Cheers

Ethan

I agree with TopKat, evidentally every other bit of software out there is hard coded, whereas Bond's software called adapt is not, i wanted to change business verticals two years ago, and no one out there could do it apart from Bond. Its practically the in a different league to anything else out there. Quite often people who disagree end up reviewing their software every two to three years to check to see if its still working for them.

Has anyone looked at the Open Source project CATS over at catsone.com, their demo site is at www.catsone.net?

It's still under heavy development - with the benefit that they're taking feature requests onboard. What do you all think?

Hi Ethan

I'm gonna be quick cause I'm tight for time.

In a nutshell I wouldn't touch Bond with a barge pole. I procured the non-ASP system in '98 and the system had major bugs, was slow and the support was appaling. I ended up threatening them with legal action and got them to pay out before it went to court.

I joined a company in '03 and the product had the SAME major problems. F*ck!!

I worked for a short while selling a recruitment software package and that meant I spent 4 weeks researching over 30 products and I can confidently tell you Bond wld be poor value at a tenth of the price. Take your time, shop around and don't be fooled by the popularity of Bond - many people know no different and the technology has moved on a lot form where Bond is...they where just one of the first around at the beginning. WRT ASP ...I have seen the ASP version and it is even more limited in funtionality. Take it from me this is a business critical system and if you do not take the time to research all your options then you stand to introduce major headaches into your business.

I do not know if these guys have ASP versions but I strongly recommend: Microdec Profile - very robust AND customisable - more than Bond. Engauge - much cheaper with slightly less flexibility BUT I chose it out of 30 systems I know of. I would have had Microdec (used it before in another company) but it was practically as expensive as Bond.

I strongly recommend having a test version to try them about and get to find out what problems there have (especially with Bond!).

Best thing to do i found is to test them both, or test as many as you can!. More importantly look at stability.

Another good thing is to talk to other agencies who have a similar business vertical, and see what they use, talk to people you trust. There will be horror stories from all companies. Best to look at what suits you.

Dear Ethan, I have recently set up my own Recruitment Business and have not seen RDB but have used and seen Adapt. I can only echo what has already been said. As is often the case " biggest is not best" And in fact in beggers belief how Bond have such market share with such a porr system and equally poor service! I have seen 3 other systems and am still not 100% sure on which to choose. Absolver, Aspire or ITRIS. They are all good enogh but unlike you I am just Perms. The only one I saw that does cover Temps is ITEC?

Feel free to e-mail me for their detaisl.

Dan

Wow,
Guys thanks for all the advice - it seems a mixed bag for and against!!

I'm more uncertail than I was initially - I thought I had it down to two companies.

The main thing I now need to concentrate on is finding which system ASP will be the most stable.

Thanks Again

And if anything else crops up that you think I should know keep it comming.

Hi All

Just surprised no one had mentioned Arithon, it was one I used for a couple of years.

It has always been ASP rather than a LAN company trying to be ASP.

Whatever the case its Arithon's simplicity and ease of use makes this software stand out

Hi, some good advice out there for these big systems. I used RDB at my previous company and while it was okay it wasn't brilliant and in my opinion it was overpriced. About 18 months ago I started my own agency and wanted a database facility. Being a startup I didnt want huge outlays or monthly bills that get bigger and bigger as we grow. I stumbled upon recruitersoft quite by accident while chasing a lead for a DB Developer position. It turned out they currently ran an HR product and were in the process of developing a custom system for recruitment system for agencies like ourselves. It is all written in C# and ASP.Net, runs very quickly and can be accessed from anywhere (very handy for client visits). We have been working closely with them for about 6 months and although it's not the finished article, it has all the makings of a very powerful database system, including Artificial Intelligence searching which essentially does the resourcers job for them - it is a lot more accurate than you would think possible! It is ideal for start up companies. One of my colleagues who has also recently set up is own business is now using it and is very pleased. The contracts are flexible and the price is very good value (£150 per month for up to 8 users). I would highly recommend having a look at it. The development is still ongoing and they plan to implement as many suggestions from their clients as possible. Their website is www.recruitersoft.com. If you ask nicely they may also do a very good deal on a .Net based website for you, they did ours www.it-rec.co.uk and I am very pleased with the results.

We upgraded to Profile by Microdec last year and i also used the system 5 years ago.

having used many recruitment software systems in my hundreds of years in the industry, I highly recommend Profile - it is efficient, very user friendly, supports all the latest technology and their helpdesk support is superb - i have never once not had my queries resolved almost immediately. There is never a delay when calling.

I haven't (yet) heard anything negative from users of the system and they also take on board suggestons for improvements to the systems for development to look into when releasing upgrades etc

They can also offer additional software to import your data from old databases etc thus allowing your sales team to get on with what they are paid for!!

They will give you an excellent on line demo
