I know other posts have been made in the past about Twitter and its use to help businesses, especially with recruitment, but has anyone had any success with it in regards to recruitment themselves?

I read this morning about H&M and they have a Twitter account tied in with their own vacancy site and it has proven really successful so far, despite the economic climate.

For anyone interested, their twitter account is twitter.com/handmcareers and the site it channels people to is hmretailcareers.com

Have had minimal results that I can track using twitter, although I have had 1 or 2 good candidates through.

I noticed that some of the big retailers use it successfully like www.play.com. perhaps it is more suitable for the consumer or retail sector?

I use twitterfeed so posting is easy. even though I am not sure about how successful twitter is it takes me no time to post so I will continue to do so.

Thanks for your timely response. I believe the H&M site uses twitterfeed as well as every time a blog post is made, it gets distributed to their twitter. I looked into it, and the use of twitterfeed to automate rss feeds to other social networks looks really interesting. Like you said, it looks like a good, secret weapon for saving a lot of time!

Twitter needs to be a part of your social media strategy, but simply posting jobs will not get you a lot back. If you want a return you need a following. Without a following your tweets will likely as not be read by no one. (It's a bit like taking out an ad i a paper with a circulation of 150). Like any social media channel, you need to build content before you post ads. Work on a ratio of 80% content/20% ads for real effect.
There are a few tricks you can pick up to build your network first. This video from craig fisher is worth watching:

That will give you a few tips to get started. We will be covering the whole social recruiting agenda at The Recruiting Unconference in london on November 19th. http://www.recruitingunconference.eventbrite.com
